Dan Ariely talks "The Human Capital Factor" on Capital Allocators Podcast

We're excited to share the most recent Capital Allocators podcast hosted by Ted Seides, featuring Irrational Capital’s Dan Ariely.

This new episode can be found here: Dan Ariely - The Human Capital Factor (Ep. 195)

As you may recall, Ted previously hosted Dan in March 2019 in what turned out to be one of Capital Allocators most popular episodes ever - “Investing in Irrationality”. The world has changed dramatically since that initial conversation and Ted recently asked Dan to rejoin him to further discuss

The Human Capital Factor, the recent report released by JP Morgan about Irrational Capital’s work and the role of culture in a post-Covid world.

The Capital Allocators podcast has become a 'must listen' for current and aspiring CIOs, the money managers that work with them, and everyone allocating a pool of capital. Ted began his career under the tutelage of endowment legend David Swensen at Yale University Investments, then went on to found Protégé Partners.

To date, Ted has released almost 200 episodes and recently published a best-selling book “Capital Allocators: How the world’s elite money managers lead and invest” which serves as an incredible reference manual for finance professionals.

In this discussion, Dan and Ted cover a wide-range of topics including:

  • JP Morgan’s recent deep dive into the Human Capital Factor as a potential breakout investment factor.

  • Why focusing on ‘easy’ cultural metrics (like headcount numbers) is ineffective and potentially counterproductive.

  • Why alignment between women and men or between managers and non-managers is far more correlated to future equity performance (even though it’s much harder to actually quantify).

  • The role that the Human Capital Factor played during Covid and how it will continue to influence companies and equity values in a post-Covid world.

  • In answering Ted’s signature closing questions, Dan muses on the rise of conspiracy theories and his own challenges with being targeted by such devotees (Spoiler: Dan did NOT partner with Bill Gates to unleash COVID-19 on the world).

We hope you enjoy this discussion and would love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

As always, we appreciate your support on our journey to prove, quantitatively, that ‘doing the right thing pays’.

Irrationally yours,

Dan, David & the IC Team
